Updated Instructions for Spring 2008 Class!!

Introductory Essay:

Write a 1-2 page informal essay about the topic of your bibliography. How the topic is related to the broader subject area of the business law. The process by which resources were located, evaluated, and selected for the bibliography, including the specific tools used. What was difficult? What surprised you? Anything else you think is relevant.

Annotations:

Only 3-4 are needed for the individual portion of this project.

Group:

The group will combine everyone's work together for a larger annotation.

Individual annotations will be due electronically by 11:59pm on April 16 and the group will be due on the wiki by 11:59pm on April 18.

Thank you to those who indicated an interest in an area of business law. I did my best to provide you with your requested topics. Hopefully, the annotated bibliography assignment has enough flexibility for everyone to pursue their interest.

While the annotations cover small areas of business law, each one of you will get a chance to explore these areas. The general topics are in bold, and specific topics are listed right after them. Some students have a specific topic assigned after the names.

Since this is a group project where we will combine each person’s work for the general topic, the groups can always trade amongst themselves. If you have another area you prefer that would add to the general topic, please let me know.

Introductory Essay:

Write a 1-2 page informal essay to introduce the bibliography. Address each of the following points in turn:

The topic of your bibliography. How the topic is related to the broader subject area of the business law. The process by which resources were located, evaluated, and selected for the bibliography, including the specific tools used (several paragraphs). What was difficult? What surprised you? Anything else you think is relevant.

The bibliography

Requirements for citations and annotations:

Resources selected for the bibliography may be located using a wide range of tools discussed during this class (e.g., classification systems, subject heading lists, print and/or online library catalogs, databases, and Internet search engines and directories).

The bibliography will represent a look at the topic. Depending on the topic, one needs about 10 annotations, with each annotation taking ¼ to ½ of a page.

The bibliography will be prepared using the Bluebook or AWLD format.

Have spaces between entries or sections. Each annotation will be original and not drawn from the document abstract. Each annotation will 1) explain what the work is “about;” 2) explain its relevance to the topic and any special features that distinguish it; and 3) explain its potential usefulness in the area of business law research.

The instructor highly recommends that students use MS-Word or other word processing program for their rough drafts. In addition to posting on the wiki, students should email the instructor a copy of their essay and annotations.
